ヒトのもつ高度な知能は身体操作機能と共に進化してきました。我々はこのような脳機能における身体性の問題について”知る”だけでなく、応用可能なエンジニアリングサイエンスとしての”脳情報科学”を目指しています。近年の脳情報科学の発展は常にデバイスの発達と共にあります。我々は、大型ロボットマニピュランダム(TX-ARM)、バーチャルリアリティシステム(Oculus Rift)や脳刺激装置を用いた新しいリハビリテーションシステムの開発や実験を通じて、脳-身体-デバイスの融合を目指します。

Shintaisei(身体性) represents a strong link between the body and the mind. While the mechanism of the brain function is latent in general, we may access it though observing the behavioral data, since, from the evolutional point of view, the cognitive function has developed in parallel with the motor function. In this sense, our brain is embodied. Thus, our approach  relies on new devices that enables us to measure human behaviors: the large robotic manipulumdam( TX-ARM) , the virtual reality system, and the brain stimulation. Here, we conceptualized our approach as “+Shintaisei”.


Memory +Shintaisei: The brain is a learning machine. We explore dynamical and statistical properties of human memory to understand how it can be updated and be collapsed. To understand these properties, we relied on machine learning theory. Then, the theoretical prediction with a computer simulation is examined by the behavioral experiment with the large robotic manipulumdum(TX-ARM) and VR systems.


Decision making + Shintaisei:The idea of “coevolution” between the mind and the motor skills hints us that the neural representation of the mind (e.g. decision, communication, and thought) might be able to seep through to senorimotor actions. We explore a neural representation of decision making in terms of the spatiotemporal properties on the coordinate systems of the body schema.

強化学習や内部モデルなどComputational Neuroscienceの枠組みを用いて、脳の病変や損傷による身体運動機能障害からのリハビリテーションによる機能回復を助けるようなアルゴリズムを開発し、TX-ARMや新しいデバイスに実装します。

Neurorehabilitation +Shintaisei: We propose a computational model of motor recovery though neurorehabliattion training in order to develop a new interactive rehabilitation techniques implemented into the rehabilitation robot (TX-ARM)


Neurohacking +Shitaisei: A communication between the brain and the machine have written often in Cyberpunkish literatures might be realized in near future. We develop a brain enhancement technology in terms of the motor function, the memory stability, and the decision performance by using the transcranial direct cortical stimulation (tDCS).
